Under a new blanket purchasing agreement with SAP Public Sector and Education Inc. of Washington, the Defense Department will use the platform for financial management, human resources, procurement and other tasks.

The Naval Air Systems Command also has negotiated a 33,000-seat enterprise license to use for similar functions. All NAVAIR employees and contractors will have access to the application, said Kathy Steele, the command's deputy chief information officer for technology planning.

Navy officials set to work on four pilots two years ago, said Dennis Distler, program manager for the NAVAIR Enterprise Solutions Program Office. A related SAP pilot in the Space and Warfare Systems Command is about to go live, he said.

NAVAIR's system will use Version 4.6 of, which received Joint Financial Management Improvement Program certification last month, SAP Public Sector president Thomas G. Shirk said.
