Do you feel that your federal perks outweigh the salary differential between government and industry jobs?

As a procurement specialist for the courts, I can say that my salary and benefits do not match the private sector. A longtime friend has been a buyer of general merchandise for a drugstore chain for 20 years and receives stock options as part of his salary. His salary is 50 percent higher than mine without his stock options! In addition, he gets reduced rates on prescriptions and is wined and dined on a regular basis by potential vendors. His health insurance is almost 35 percent lower than mine. I love working for the federal courts, but there is room for improvement in salary and benefits.

'Joe Wilkicki, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts
