New Mini PC has a wireless link to its CPU

The release of a new wearable notebook PC, the Panasonic Toughbook 07 Mini PC, follows close on the heels of the Xybernaut wearable PC [GCN, June 25, Page 32].

The Toughbook 07 Mini PC has a separate 8.4-inch color transflective, touch-screen display that communicates wirelessly up to 300 feet from the 2-pound CPU box. The rugged, magnesium-cased display weighs 1.5 pounds and is about an inch thick.

The 300-MHz Pentium III processor in the Toughbook 07 Mini PC is slower than the Xybernaut's 500-MHz Celeron. The Toughbook's price is slightly lower'$3,798 versus $3,995. A $599 docking station and a Global Positioning System module are optional.

The Toughbook comes with 64M of RAM, a shock-mounted 5G drive, several ports and a Type II PC Card slot. Its operating system can be Microsoft Windows 98, NT or 2000.
