' Melts in your mouth, not in your Phaser. Xerox Corp. last month sent out press kits announcing the debut of ColorStix II solid inks for its Phaser 860 printers. It's a sticky situation for those who got the kits. The foil-wrapped samples were actually chocolate'milk, dark and white'molded in the exact shape and size of real ink sticks and packed in the official ColorStix carton. Oops. Who's still waiting for their first chocolate-printed page to emerge?

' Section 508 bites Microsoft. The software monopoly, as Microsoft Corp. is officially described in an otherwise favorable antitrust ruling that was issued by the U.S. Court of Appeals late last month, originally designed the Luna user interface of its forthcoming Windows XP operating system in dazzling new colors. Then colorblind beta testers reportedly complained that they weren't dazzled by Luna, because the ruby red and emerald green hues looked like mud.

' Does this mean good news or bad news about hurricanes? The last posting at www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW/day4/advisories/discussions.htm, a National Hurricane Center site for heads-up discussions of tropical cyclones, is dated Sept. 24, 1998. The latest 'What's New' posting at www.nhc.noaa.gov.aboutnew.html is from Jan. 14, 2000.

' Cold storage. The GCN Lab staff has been stress-testing rugged notebook PCs for its July 30 review of performance under extreme conditions. In the past this usually involved high temperatures and humidity, but one staff member did a double take recently when he opened the employee refrigerator and saw a running notebook.
