Army picks nine vendors for $300 million deal


For blanket purchasing agreements worth $300 million, Army officials recently selected nine vendors to provide desktop and notebook PCs and accessories to the service for three years.

The Army Desktop and Mobile Computing-1 contracts will replace two indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts'Army Portable-3, which expires this month, and PC-3, which ends in April.

The agreements will span three years and are open to any agency interested in purchasing services or equipment under the BPAs. They let agencies purchase PCs and peripherals at reduced rates'at least 2 percent less than the General Services Administration contract prices for services and at least 4 percent less for products.

The services covered by the agreements include warranty support, installation, custom imaging and asset tagging.

'The ADMC-1 BPA provides agencies with the opportunity to take full advantage of the rapid pace of information technology advancements,' said Patrick Neven, president and chief executive officer of of McLean, Va., one of the nine vendors.

The other vendors include CDW-G Corp. of Vernin Hills, Ill.; Comark Inc. of Bloomingdale, Ill.; ComTeq Federal Inc. of Rockville, Md.; Dell Computer Corp.; GTSI Corp. of Chantilly, Va.; Intelligent Decisions Inc. of Chantilly, Va.; Micron Government Computer Systems Inc. of Nampa, Idaho; and PlanetGov of Chantilly, Va.

The Army Small Computer Program, located at Fort Monmouth, N.J., will manage the BPAs.
