The Customs Service has arrested two suspects in Missouri and California for attempting to export military encryption technology to China.
Eugene You Tsai Hsu of Blue Springs, Mo., and David Tzu Wvi Yang of Temple City, Calif., allegedly tried to export encryption devices that are used to secure classified communications, in violation of the Arms Export Control Act.
The KIV-7HS encryption units the suspects allegedly tried to ship overseas are for government use only and cannot be exported out of the country without State Department approval. China is prohibited from acquiring the units from the United States.
The arrests followed a four-month investigation by the Customs Service and the Defense Department.
