NOAA hires SER for data conversion

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is looking
to a Herndon, Va., company to help it create the world's largest digital archive of climate data at the agency's National Climatic Data Center under a $1 million contract.

SER Solutions Inc. will supply digital information for NOAA's online library, which will provide access to more than 100 sets of weather data in the national climate database, a company spokeswoman said.

The company will digitize data from the Air Force Defense Meteorological Satellite Program and meteorological collections from the NOAA central library.

The NOAA center's climate data includes more than 175 million documents, 660 million feet of microfilm and more than 1 petabyte of digital data.
