IRS taps Nortel for Telefile pact

The IRS has awarded a $7.8 million contract to Nortel Networks to support the Telefile integrated voice response system.

The contract has a one-year base period and a four-year option.

Nortel Networks will provide hardware and software support, install voice recording systems and provide testing, training and problem identification services to the IRS, said Shelvee Osborne, Telefile project manager.

The TeleFile system allows taxpayers to file Form 1040EZ and Form 941 in about 10 minutes using a touch-tone telephone. The system provides a confirmation number at the end of each call to verify that the IRS has received the return.
