Transportation agencies tackle metro congestion

The Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration have launched a Web program to help state and local officials cope with metropolitan transport problems.

The Metropolitan Capacity Building Program site, at, offers a briefing book about metropolitan planning, case studies, conference schedules, key federal contacts, peer-to-peer exchanges, and training assistance for local officials and boards.

'This program is a good example of applying new technology to complex, real-world transportation problems'one of my priorities for the department,' Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta said in announcing MCB resources.
