CIAO says hello to bigger role in IT security

The Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office likely will play a larger role in helping agencies meet their IT security needs, according to Sarah League, the Defense Department liaison to the CIAO.

One of CIAO's top priorities is to update by late spring the national plan for information system protection, League said at a homeland defense conference last month in Washington.

'We look at this as a living document, where we continually update how the federal government is doing in protecting its critical infrastructure,' said League, former CIO of the Defense Information Systems Agency.

CIAO also plans on helping agencies identify private, state and local infrastructure dependencies and work on contingency plans if one part of the infrastructure goes down.
