Verizon wins MAA contract for Norfolk, Va.

The General Services Administration has awarded Verizon Federal Inc. of Washington a contract worth up to $350 million over eight years for local telephone service in the Norfolk, Va., area.

In the 24th competitive local-service award under GSA's Metropolitan Area Acquisition program, Verizon will supply voice, switched data and dedicated transmission services to agencies in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and Williamsburg, Va.; York County; and the northern portions of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.

The contract prices average 16 percent lower than federal users currently pay in the area. GSA has estimated savings for basic analog voice at more than 27 percent over eight years.
