DOT agency will upgrade its legacy mainframes

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has awarded a five-year contract to Signal Corp. to upgrade legacy mainframe applications.

The contract, which has one base year and four option years, could be worth $14 million to the Fairfax, Va., company if the Transportation Department agency exercises all the options.

The new system will consolidate the agency's data in a client-server environment users will be able to access via browser. Research teams will find it easier to collect, store and analyze records about roadside inspections, traffic enforcement, and truck and bus crash incidents and fatalities.
