HUD finally issues proposal for IT overhaul

After months of delay, the Housing and Urban Development Department has released a final solicitation for overhauling its IT infrastructure.

Through the 10-year, multimillion-dollar HUD Information Technology Services project, the department will replace its current systems services contract. The $526 million HUD Integrated Information Processing Service deal, awarded in 1990 to Lockheed Martin Corp., expires next year.

HITS will cover a range of services, including data processing, management and recovery, printing and distribution, LAN and WAN services, and Web site administration.

Vendors must submit proposals by April 29, and HUD plans to award the contract Oct. 31. The contract will have a two-year base period and eight one-year options.

HUD issued the first HITS draft request for proposals last April, followed by a second draft in June, a third in August and a fourth in February.
