Major Programs at Interior

Earth Resources Observation Systems Data Center. The Geological Survey center in Sioux Falls, S.D., uses satellite data to map national and international land masses and to analyze trends in land cover.

Electronic Acquisition System. IDEAS is designed to automate the department's procurement process, from requisition creation to the final step of acquisition. The system will include databases of acquisition regulations and will generate purchase and delivery orders, standard and ad hoc reports, and source listings.

Royalty Management Program's financial system. Interior is using a commercial financial management and relational database management system to handle the $4 billion generated each year by leasing of federal and Indian lands and the funds collected by the Minerals Management Service for resources extracted from federal lands. The system includes an enterprise network and LANs for each program division to process more than $300 million each month.

Geological Interpretive Tools System. The Minerals Management Service uses a suite of commercial software to process geological data for modeling, mapping, simulations and analysis.
