Washington wishes upon a star to find new CIO

Washington Gov. Gary Locke announced last month the appointment of Stuart M. McKee, the former vice president of Walt Disney Internet Group, as the state's CIO.

McKee directed many Web sites for the Los Angeles company, including Disney.com, ESPN.com, NFL.com, GO.com, DisneyStore.com and ABCNews.com. Web research firm Jupiter Media Metrix of New York said the company's sites received about 23.5 million visitors a month.

'I am confident that his experience with these firms of global prominence will be a great advantage in leading Washington's expanding e-government operations,' Locke said.

McKee said his role as CIO will be 'a fantastic opportunity to build upon a great foundation and shape the face of digital government.'

McKee had been the general manager and senior executive producer of GO.com. He also served as director of business and database systems for Infoseek Corp. of Sunnyvale, Calif., which was bought by Disney in 1999.

McKee has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, and a master's of business administration from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.
