FedCIRC plans Web portal

Sally McDonald

Government network security officials will have better access to software and information through a new knowledge management portal from the Federal Computer Incident Response Center.

FedCIRC plans to issue a request for proposals later this summer for a vendor to build the Web site, said Sallie McDonald, assistant commissioner in the Federal Technology Service's Information Assurance and Critical Infrastructure Protection Office.

Systems administrators, CIOs and other officials would gain access to FedCIRC tools and services and could communicate with one another in a secure environment. The portal also would provide access to a security patch management site that Science Applications International Corp. is developing for FedCIRC.

FedCIRC plans to issue a second RFP for packaging a security tool kit of federally developed programs from agencies such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Security Agency.
