The Navy's Extensible Markup Language Working Group has published the second edition of its XML developers' guide, and the group isn't even a year old.
In May, the group released the 41-page Version 1.1 of the guide, a revision of last November's Version 1.0. Both are online at quickplace.hq.navy.mil/navyxml
The Navy participates in XML standards groups such as the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, said Michael Jacobs, data architecture project lead for the Navy CIO's office. Jacobs spoke last week at a government-industry XML meeting at the Reston, Va., office of Mitre Corp. of Bedford, Mass.
The Navy's working group draws about 50 to 60 Navy personnel to its quarterly meetings, Jacobs said. The group is drafting an XML implementation plan and documenting requirements for a servicewide repository of XML schemas and code.
