Federal e-learning site beats milestone

The Office of Personnel Management today launched an online training site for users governmentwide.

The site, at www.golearn.gov, lets federal employees choose from more than 30 courses and access more than 50 electronic books at no cost.

The Office of Management and Budget had set a deadline of Oct. 15 for the launch of the e-training site, one of OMB's 24 spotlight e-government initiatives. The Defense, Labor, Transportation and Treasury departments and the General Services Administration also participated in developing the site.

'The government online learning center is an essential tool for fulfilling government employee learning needs,' said Mark Forman, OMB's associate director for IT and e-government. 'The virtual resource delivers the tools for federal employees to improve their knowledge and professional skills.'

By November, OPM plans to add more courses, including some for-fee classes.
