Major programs within NMCI

Common Aviation Command and Control System: Through the CAC2S project, the service will coordinate modernization of the Marine Air Command and Control System. CAC2S will eliminate current aviation command and control systems and add aviation combat direction and air defense functions.

Joint Tactical Radio System: A programmable, multiband, multimode radio, JTRS will provide integrated data, video and voice communications. With it, the Corps will disseminate command and control data, situational awareness data and voice circuits. JTRS will provide embedded networking and information security.

Marine Common Hardware Suite: The program provides high-performance and general-purpose client systems - both desktop and notebook PCs - and file application servers. The suite includes tactical and functional command, control, communications, computers and intelligence programs, along with the hardware upgrades. Its threefold purpose is to centralize the procurement of PCs, file application servers and software throughout the Corps; to verify that hardware complies with Marine Corps environmental standards; and to provide integrated logistics support for MCHS hardware.

Navy-Marine Corps Intranet: Through this project, the Navy and Marine Corps will shift their PC operations to a single intranet linking users worldwide. The Corps will be the last Navy organization to move to the new service, beginning next year. Contractor Electronic Data Systems Corp. offers various levels of PC services for NMCI.

Wideband Satellite Backbone: The program will transform the Corps' tactical network by improving present wideband SATCOM terminal systems and future systems.
