The 41st Annual Interagency Resources Management Conference earlier this month gave attendees a lot to chew on, with a smorgasbord of plenary sessions, two days of provocative dialogues on everything from CRM to XML, and a dangerous amount of available chocolate. Then, before it wrapped up, fitness guru and guest speaker Richard Simmons came in to try to get everyone back into preconference shape. Fat chance.

And in a no-pun-intended gesture, a blushing bride named Candy spent her first few days of marriage at the conference in Hershey, Pa., chocolate capital of the world west of Belgium. Just before the conference, Candy'Candace Hardesty, director of acquisition and contract performance for the Education Department's Office of Student Financial Assistance Programs'married Jim. That would be James Flyzik, Treasury Department CIO and senior IT adviser to homeland security director Tom Ridge.

Hershey honeymoon

At a dinner during which the couple was toasted, Jim Flyzik quipped that given his connection to the government IT world, being at IRMCO was like being with family.

Emory Miller, IRMCO program chairman and the General Services Administration's director of professional development for e-government and technology, noted he'd been willing to give up his luxe suite at the Hershey Lodge for the Flyziks. Unfortunately, Miller's assistant reassigned it to Simmons, leaving the newlyweds to make do in a standard room. No doubt Hershey kisses made up for it.
