CDC sets a deal for nationwide health network

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded a seven-year, $511 million contract to TRW Inc. to develop systems for public health research, surveillance and intervention efforts nationwide.

Under the contract, TRW will create a secure network to let CDC and its partners share clinical, laboratory and public health data, as well as transmit messages and alerts.

TRW and its subcontractors will analyze the information requirements for current and upcoming health programs and train users in applications for the systems.

TRW will apply Capability Maturity Model-Integration quality standards that were developed by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.
