DOD signs deal for McAfee antivirus suite

The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded a five-year contract to deploy the McAfee Security suite of antivirus and security products from Network Associates Inc. to as many as 3 million Defense Department users.

The deal replaces an earlier contract with the Santa Clara, Calif., company.

DOD will use VirusScan software for desktop antivirus protection, NetShield for file server protection, GroupShield to protect e-mail servers and WebShield for Internet gateway protection.

DISA also is using McAfee VirusScan Wireless to protect handheld devices from malicious code.

The contract includes the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator management console, which allows central management of McAfee and third-party antivirus desktop products.
