Fujitsu RAID systems scale up to 13.7T

The Eternus GR series of RAID storage systems from Fujitsu Technology Solutions Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., can accommodate 15,000-rpm disk drives for higher random-read performance than with standard 10,000-rpm drives.

Eternus is Fujitsu's brand name for combined storage software, hardware and support, said Wayne Giroux, the company's storage marketing director.

The Eternus GR710, GR730, GR730 and GR740 all have Fibre Channel host interfaces for connection to storage area networks. Capacity ranges from 584G for the GR710 to 13.7T for the GR740.

Instead of 15,000-rpm 18G and 36G drives, users can select 36G or 73G 10,000-rpm drives. The GR series is compatible with servers running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX or Tru64 Unix, IBM AIX, Linux and Sun Microsystems Solaris. A 1T system with Fujitsu Softek Virtualization SAN-management software lists for $100,000.
