Army prepares for IT enterprise project

This summer, the Army plans to hire a contractor for the IT Enterprise Solutions program'a $500 million project that is central to a larger Army initiative to consolidate disparate information systems into an integrated, enterprise-wide system.

A request for proposals on the ITES project is slated in a few months, according to Kevin Carroll, the Army's program executive officer for Enterprise Information Systems.

The ITES contract will be broken into two modules: enterprise hardware solutions and enterprise mission support services solutions, Carroll said yesterday during a breakfast keynote address sponsored by Federal Sources Inc. of McLean, Va., and Federal Computer Week.

ITES is part of a larger initiative called Army Enterprise Infostructure Transformation. AEIT will replace dozens of legacy systems and will become 'a single Army network, one portal,' Carroll said.

The Army wants to 'put the vehicle in place and begin to use it so we can generate some consolidation efforts,' Carroll said.
