Energy picks off-the-shelf business apps

The Energy Department is planning to construct an integrated business system from off-the-shelf Web applications.

The Integrated Management Navigation System, or I-Manage, will go live in stages over the next three fiscal years, said Ed Golden, deputy program manager.

Energy will tie in its existing Web-enabled human resources application from PeopleSoft Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., Golden said.

Oracle Federal Financials will administer the financial portion of I-Manage, but vendors have not been chosen for other applications, including a central data warehouse.

Department officials want to achieve economies of scale by licensing the I-Manage components enterprisewide instead of buying piecemeal for multiple agencies and field offices, said Jack Koller, a senior policy adviser in the Energy CIO's office.
