How's your health? The National Center for Health Statistics, thinking citizens would want to know, has spent three years building an online database of public health indicators, under the rubric of the Healthy People 2010 project.

The goals of the project are to help Americans extend the quality and length of their lives, and to reduce disparities in health conditions. To monitor the citizenry's health, the Healthy People 2010 database tracks 28 focus areas, each representing a public health issue for which the Health and Human Services Department has established an improvement goal to be met by the end of the decade.

Where do we stand? Using the Healthy People 2010 database at, users can generate tables by age, geographic location and other factors.
