Citrix expands MetaFrame applications

Citrix Systems Inc. is broadening MetaFrame'one of the earliest remote-access and management infrastructures for heterogeneous clients on Microsoft Windows networks'to include conferencing and identity management.

David Manks, senior marketing director for the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., company, said yesterday that the forthcoming MetaFrame Access Suite will include:

  • MetaFrame XP Server Feature Release 3 with simplified licensing, support for Mac OS X systems and Tablet PCs running Microsoft Windows XP, and certification for the future Windows Server 2003

  • MetaFrame Secure Access Manager with 164-bit encryption and authentication via password and personal identification number

  • MetaFrame Conferencing Manager for mobile and remote collaboration within a complex application such as project management, using telephones for the audio component

  • MetaFrame Password Manager for scripting multiple passwords to allow a single sign-on.

  • 'It's a huge cost to our customers' to manage and reset passwords, Manks said. Citrix government users number about 24,000, he said.

All the products will be discounted on the company's General Services Administration schedule contract as they become available this year. Secure Access Manager has a $109 promotional price per concurrent user.
