PeopleSoft portal has single sign-on access

A new release of the PeopleSoft Government Portal suite is entirely Web-based, letting users plug directly into internal applications after a single sign-on.

The portal also has more than 30 metrics to track financial performance and detect weaknesses in an agency's operations.

The first release in 2001 from PeopleSoft Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., had an online interface, but users had to click on hyperlinks to reach legacy and enterprise apps such as e-mail, calendar and accounting functions.

Based on PeopleSoft 8, the portal works with the company's proprietary software for electronic procurement, budget planning and human resources management. It is compatible with Microsoft Exchange Server, Lotus Notes and Post Office Protocol 3 e-mail programs.

Pricing depends on the number of licenses and applications used, said Louise Stonehouse, director of financial strategy for PeopleSoft.
