The shrinking of .Net. Speaking of Microsoft Corp., it launched Windows Server 2003 last week with nary a brag about end-to-end .Net connectivity, which had been hyped as the company's biggest post-Internet bet. But there was a single mention of Visual Studio .net, whose .Net surname has now been lowercased in product logos.

Flashiest federal site: Treas.gov. Don't believe it? Check out the dozens of Macromedia Flash-enabled games and cartoons on the kid-oriented h.i.p Pocket Change section. In honor of last week's National Coin Week, the Mint posted a dazzling Flash medley of coin info, interactive puzzles, time-travel trips and even a Clothesmatic 3000 generator of hats, shirts and pants from various eras of American history. The Clothesmatic 3000 should be a hot seller if the Mint can commercialize the software concept.

First dog tags, then flea collars? Handy little pest-fighting strips are among the top items in care packages going to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. But Army Maj. Dwight Rickard of the Armed Forces Pet Management Board warns that 'flea collars are not approved for humans. Our skin is different from dogs' and the pesticides tend to burn.'
