GSA hires SRA to support acquisition institute

The General Services Administration has awarded SRA International Inc. a five-year, $8.2 million support contract to help the Federal Acquisition Institute revamp its acquisition services.

The institute plans, manages and coordinates the development and implementation of governmentwide acquisition policies, programs and practices for career employees.

To enhance its ongoing activities, the Fairfax, Va., company will support the institute in six ways:

  • Conduct research to improve the procurement process and analyze work force trends

  • Develop a competency acquisition career model to assist agencies in assessing employee performance and hiring acquisition workers

  • Develop acquisition training standards

  • Provide training and sponsor training events

  • Establish partnerships with the Defense Acquisition University and other acquisition associations and educational institutions

  • Conduct outreach about the institute.

SRA's subcontractors include Bowie State University in Bowie, Md., which will assist in establishing educational partnerships, creating training standards and performing outreach.

'We look forward to operating with more flexibility and efficiency as we move to contractor-supporter services,' said Gloria Sochoon, the institute's director. 'We will continue to improve our support to acquisition professionals across federal agencies and help them gain the skills they need to perform successfully in a changing business environment.'
