Excellence pays off for DOD contracting officers

Two Defense contracting officers are the 2003 winners of $5,000 acquisition excellence awards.

Charles Bright, who works in the U.S. Special Operations Command, was the winner of the 3rd annual Ida Ustad Award for Excellence in Acquisition. Nancy Gunderson, of the Pentagon Renovation Program, will take home the 1st Elmer B. Staats Young Acquisition Professional Excellence Award.

The awards, along with the checks, will be presented at the Federal Acquisition Conference banquet on June 12 at the Sheraton Premiere, Tysons Corner, Va. Procurement Roundtable and the General Services Administration sponsor the awards.

The awards recognize government employees who embody the 'concept of contract specialist as business leader/advisor,' officials said.

To be eligible, applicants must work for an agency subject to the Federal Acquisition Regulation.
