Navy names a third deputy CIO

Navy CIO Dave Wennergren has named a third deputy CIO to head up policy and integration efforts across the Navy Department.

Rob Carey, the service's former e-business and smart-card team leader, is in charge of creating policy to ensure that everyone in the Navy is in sync with the department's transformational direction.

"Rob is there making sure that our policy issues are being met," Wennergren said. "He's been a real e-business leader."

Carey will join Rear Adm. Thomas Zelibor, deputy Navy CIO, and Brig. Gen. John Thomas, Marine Corps deputy CIO, in his new position, which takes effect immediately.

Wennergren said Zelibor and Thomas are focused more on implementation of policy and integration while Carey is tasked with "helping to create that implementation across the Navy Department."
