New Defense center focuses on joint systems

The Defense Department has created a center to focus on interoperability issues for joint and coalition systems.

Defense officials unveiled the Center for Joint and Coalition Interoperability in April during the Joint Interoperability Test Command's Interoperability Conference 2003 at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

Russell J. Richards, the center's lead engineer, said he and other engineers offer technical guidance on exchanging information across environments. The center also will be DOD's advocate for promoting IT lifecycle interoperability for systems used by joint and allied forces, he said during a briefing.
