Education CTO Luigart heads to VA

Craig Luigart announced his resignation as Education Department deputy CIO and chief technology officer, the department said today. His resignation is effective July 1.

The Veterans Affairs Department has tapped Luigart to be associate deputy assistant secretary for policies, plans and programs, under acting CIO Edward Meagher. Luigart said he will concentrate on enterprise transformation issues and governance at VA.

Luigart has been deputy CIO and chief technology officer at Education since March and previously served as CIO. He provided oversight for Education's nearly $1 billion in IT investments.

He has also pushed government to make systems more accessible to disabled persons. He is Section 508 co-chairman for the Federal CIO Council and serves as one of the administration's national spokespersons on technology access for the physically challenged. Luigart is a disabled veteran and former Navy pilot.
