Military Health System hires HIPAA support

The Military Health System has hired Booz Allen Hamilton to help 130,000 health care providers comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

The McLean, Va., company is the prime contractor in the multiyear follow-on contract to provide program and acquisition support, and technical management of Web systems for HIPAA training, compliance and disclosure tracking, according to a company release.

On Monday, MHS issued a $4 million base-year contract with three option years. If all option years are exercised, the contract amount would increase to $14.1 million.

Booz Allen will be supported by HIPAA Accelerator Inc. of Bannockburn, Ill.; Plateau Systems of Arlington, Va.; QuickCompliance of Westport, Conn.; and Strategic Management Systems Inc. of Alexandria, Va.

The contractors will operate as members of the TRICARE Management Activity's HIPAA Integrated Product Team.
