NMCI team hires security subcontractor

The Navy-Marine Corps Intranet contractor, EDS Corp., has picked a network security management vendor to assist in protecting the Navy's legacy networks during the transition to NMCI.

EDS has awarded a contract to Securify Inc. (click for company announcement) of Mountain View, Calif., for its SecurVantage suite.

The license deal is for two years. The project is costing $4 million for fiscal 2003 and a total of $5.8 million over the two-year deal, said Capt. Chris Christopher, deputy NMCI director for future operations, communications and business initiatives.

"At the end of that time, our assumption is most of the legacy networks will be gone and we will be operating in the NMCI environment,' Christopher said.

The software will help NMCI security personnel monitor, measure and analyze network traffic and make sure it meets with the Navy's security practices, EDS officials said.

The products will generate information on Navy legacy network and application-level components'such as firewalls, software, virtual private networks and routers, and virus protection and authentication apps'according to a company statement.

The Securify suite includes SecurVantage Studio, for policy development and analysis; SecurVantage Monitor, for monitoring and systems evaluation; SecurVantage Enterprise, for analyzing data across an enterprise; and SecurVantage Enterprise Global, for managing security in complex environments.
