Bush nominates replacement for Defense CIO

Although Defense Department CIO John Stenbit has yet to set a specific date for his retirement, President Bush yesterday nominated Francis Joseph Harvey to take his place when he does step down in the next couple of months.

Harvey is vice chairman of Duratek Inc. The Columbia, Md., company provides radioactive waste services.

Harvey previously worked as the chief operating officer of the industries and technology group at Westinghouse Electric Co. He also earlier was president of Westinghouse's electronic systems group.

Stenbit still has numerous items on his calendar through February, said Lt. Col. Ken McClellan, a Defense spokesman.

Stenbit became CIO and assistant secretary for networks and information integration in August 2001. His career spans more than 30 years in government and industry jobs related to telecommunications and command and control.
