Avocent cuts the KVM cord

Avocent Corp.'s $250 LongView keyboard-video-mouse switch can wirelessly connect to and control computers up to 100 feet away. The wireless KVM connects VGA, SuperVGA, XGA monitors, keyboards, mice and audio devices to any desired computer.

The 100-foot connectivity radius is set by the built-in IEEE 802.11a WiFi radio link, which uses the government's Advanced Encryption Standard for maximum security in data transactions.

The Huntsville, Ala., company's patented data compression and protocol technology can transmit 24-bit color at 32 frames per second, which lets the LongView send high-resolution images. For more information, visit www.avocent.com.

Stay tuned for a GCN Lab review of the LongView's transfer rate and accuracy.
