SBC first vendor to gain FTS 2001 crossover deal

The General Services Administration's FTS 2001 telecommunications contract has a new long-distance provider: SBC Communications Inc. of San Antonio.

Under a contract modification to the governmentwide program, SBC can compete for federal long-distance business in voice, data, PremierSERV network management and other services.

SBC already held contracts under GSA's Metropolitan Area Acquisition to supply competitive local service in eight cities.

Last year, SBC subsidiary SBC DataComm Inc. received a networking services contract under GSA's Connections program. That contract was modified for the FTS 2001 crossover program.
