DFAS finishes financial management system

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service has completed its deployment of an enterprisewide financial management system known as e-Biz.

Developed by American Management Systems Inc. of Fairfax, Va., e-Biz supports the full range of financial management functions at the agency. The app uses Momentum, an AMS enterprise resource planning suite, to track funds from federal budget allocation to payment of personnel and contractors, according to an AMS release.

With the completed system, DFAS officials can now access real-time data on billing and cost allocations, general ledger and time productivity, the release said.

"These early successes demonstrated we were on the right path in transforming financial management at DFAS to bring better value and greater accountability to the taxpayer," said Patrick T. Shine, acting director of DFAS. "EBiz is a significant step in ensuring that America's national security is supported with a world-class finance capability that matches our military might in effect and efficiency."
