Major programs within the SSA

Social Security Online Accounting and Reporting System. SSA has completed Phase I implementation of this electronic financial accounting system, which meets new federal financial system requirements. The system uses an Oracle database and moves accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase order and general ledger modules onto the Web. Planning and analysis for Phase II of the system'to provide functionality enhancements and integration of several related financial systems'is under way.

Value of contract: $22.6 million

Active Directory Implementation Support. SSA is moving to the deployment of Windows Server 2003 and will implement Active Directory as part of its network architecture. The software will provide a directory service designed for distributed networking environments and let SSA efficiently share and manage information about network resources and users. It also will provide central authority for network security, verification of a user's identity and access control to network resources.

Supporting contractor: Microsoft Corp.

Contract value: $5.2 million

Server Replacement. As a preliminary step in implementing Windows Server 2003 and Active Directory, SSA recently completed an effort to replace the legacy servers in its network with new Dell 2500, 2600 and 6600 servers.
