New employees. The National Security Agency plans to hire 1,500 people'many for IT jobs'by September. The increase will mark a 37 percent boost in staff, said John Taflan, the agency's new chief of human resources.

Taflan said NSA is looking for people who are experienced in foreign languages, intelligence analysis, signals analysis, computer science and engineering.

NSA is accepting applications online at www.nsa.gov.

Multiple awards. The Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded 151 systems support contracts that could be worth more than $10 billion in total.

The SeaPort Enhanced indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts will help the Naval Surface Warfare Center and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center with systems engineering, acquisition management, and technical and programming support.

The contractors'48 large companies, 102 small business and one nonprofit group'will head up teams to vie for 75,000 task orders.

Each of the 151 contracts has a five-year base period and two five-year options.

IT outsourcing. The Defense Logistics Agency plans to turn over its disparate servers and databases to a vendor.

DLA is seeking quotations from select vendors for its Enterprise Data Center initiative. The agency asked vendors to submit proposals for consolidating servers, applications, storage and operations across DLA to reduce costs and better manage IT assets.

The data center contract, to be awarded in July, would run for five years with five one-year options. The initiative will shift DLA's servers and databases from current distributed data centers to a centralized Enterprise Data Center, according to the request for quotations.
