The lowdown: utlralight notebook PC

Why carry an ultralight notebook PC? For most of us, the lighter the machine, the better, unless you really need all the bells and whistles a desktop replacement notebook offers.

Are all Tablet PCs ultralight?

Are the new mobile processors helpful? New mobile chips from Intel Corp. and Transmeta Corp. have more power, less heat and greater capability, so they should make better ultralight machines. Prices seem to keep pace.

Must-know info? Ultralight notebook PCs occupy the ground between desktop replacements and handhelds. To some extent, this has excluded them from organizations that have chosen one end of the spectrum or the other. But ultralight notebooks have plenty of power for all but the most intensive computing tasks and more functionality than handhelds. They're probably best used in conjunction with'rather than as replacements for'desktop PC systems.
