Military moving unit awards deal to SRA for Web system

The Defense Department's Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command has awarded a $54.6 million contract to SRA International Inc. to develop a single, Web-based personal-property system to integrate and automate processes that support military families' moves worldwide.

The command manages DOD's $1.8 billion Personal Property Program and is responsible for moving more than 500,000 shipments each year for the military services, other Defense agencies and the Coast Guard.

The new system, now being developed, operated and maintained by a team of contractors led by SRA over the life of the 10-year contract, is expected to streamline the movement process and integrate with other transportation initiatives.

The system is part of the DOD Families First Initiative.
