With Hurricane Frances headed for Florida, the Treasury Department requested that Florida banks make available today September Social Security benefit payments scheduled for direct deposit on Friday.
Several Florida financial institutions responded to the request and agreed to recognize these benefit payments one day ahead.
The Florida Bankers Association sent a survey to its members, and all members who responded indicated they would honor the payments today and assist citizens preparing for the storm.
This service will be available to customers of participating banks who have already arranged for direct deposit of their Social Security benefits. It does not apply to beneficiaries who receive payments by mail.
