Rail agency awards IT support contract

The Federal Railroad Administration awarded SofTec Solutions Inc. of Englewood, Colo., a contract for services to support its Office of Information Technology and Support Systems. The railroad agency is part of the Transportation Department.

The firm-fixed-price contract awarded last week is for one base year, two consecutive one-year options and four consecutive six-month options with a value of $9.5 million.

The railroad agency's IT office uses an integrated enterprise architecture, capital planning and security governance process to implement and manage the agency's information systems in a common operating environment.

Contractor services will include help-desk management and support; network, server, e-mail and database management; inventory and asset management; and enterprise architecture and capital planning documentation.

The federal railroad IT user community consists of about 760 personnel in headquarters and eight regional offices as well as 150 state personnel.
