VA to seek telecom support

The Veterans Affairs Department will ask vendors for proposals on how they would make sure the department's new communications systems will keep its business operations running.

The department expects to release a request for proposals Oct. 15 for an enterprise Telecommunications Operations Support System.

The project will build on the environment established by the VA Telecommunications Modernization Project to improve the existing departmentwide WAN into a national integrated services platform, VA said in a presolicitation notice last week.

Under the operations support project, VA will acquire and develop a single integrated system that will enhance the department's telecommunications asset and services management. At a minimum, the system will have to provide handling of service requests, hierarchy code management, invoice tracking and billing reconciliation, telecom asset inventory management and funding allocation.
