E-gov panel leader tapped for Energy secretary

President George W. Bush today nominated Samuel Bodman, who leads the e-government committee of the President's Management Council, to be the secretary of Energy.

Bodman has been deputy secretary at the Treasury Department since February. Before that, he served as deputy secretary at the Commerce Department and was a private-sector executive for 31 years [see GCN coverage here].

The management council is made up of chief operating officers from agencies. Bodman would relinquish his duties there if the Senate confirms him for the Energy Department job.
