Former Social Security official joins Vion

The former head of the Social Security Administration's data processing and telecommunications programs joined Vion Corp. of Washington, D.C., this week as chief technologist.

Jim Preissner was previously SSA's associate commissioner, Office of Telecommunications and Systems Operations, before going to the small, veteran-owned IT business, which focuses on business continuity, enterprise storage and server consolidation.

'His vast knowledge of program management and technology innovations will add new dimensions to the ongoing work of our corporation,' said Vion president Tom Frana.

Preissner, who retired at the end of 2004 after 17 years at SSA, will direct Vion's efforts to add telecommunications and advanced networking to the company's processor and storage systems business lines. At SSA he was responsible for the agency's multiplatform data processing infrastructure and all voice, video and data communications. Preissner was also a member of the Senior Executive Service since 1987.
