Mint awards Accenture $87 million e-biz contract

The Mint has awarded Accenture Ltd. a contract to upgrade the marketing systems it uses for sales of collectible and commemorative coins and medals.

The contract is worth up to $87 million over five years.

The Mint generates about $300 million in annual revenue from sales through online, phone and mail-in orders. Accenture will perform warehouse management, call center operations, Web applications and order systems management to increase the customer base.

The Accenture subcontractors include Akamai Technologies Inc. of Cambridge, Mass.; PFSweb Inc. of Plano, Texas; Qwest Communications of Denver and Sapient Corp., also of Cambridge.
